Verdicts and settlements

In 2009, Terry Gilbert settled a lawsuit for over $800,000 where a young man died in August 2006 after a violent struggle with deputies in the Summit County mental-health unit.

These are some of the recent verdicts and settlements achieved by Friedman & Gilbert:

In 2008 Terry Gilbert won a 2.5 million dollar verdict in Federal Court on behalf of a police officer who blew the whistle on corruption in a local police department and then was fired in retaliation. ( See v. City of Elyria )

In October, 2008, Gordon Friedman won unanimous not guilty verdicts on behalf of a public school teacher who was charged with twelve Counts of attemtped rape and molestation on two school children.

In June 2008, Terry Gilbert settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the Campbell Ohio police department in connection with the arrest and use of force against a man who was intoxicated for $300,000.00. ( Woodruff v. City of Campbell )

In 2006, Terry Gilbert settled a lawsuit for $400,000 where an elderly man - arrested for interfering with the arrest of his wife for DUI - suffered a stroke in the jail which the jailers ignored and failed to properly treat, causing him to slip into a coma and eventually die.( Mitchell v. Youngstown )

Terry Gilbert won one of the largest police shooting verdicts in Ohio against the City of Cleveland Police Department for 3.1 million dollars. The plaintiff was shot accidentally and was paralyzed when the officer tried to arrest him for running from craps game with his friends on a street corner. ( Harris v. City of Cleveland )

In September 2008, Gordon Friedman won an acquittal on behalf of an international consultant charged with theft from a non-profit he helped create.

In 2007, Terry Gilbert won a not guilty verdict in Federal Court on behalf of a woman who was accused of planning to bomb the homes of the local mayor and judge. The prosecution alleged that the plot was motivated by the local authorities pursuing the pair for municipal tax violations. ( US v. Holin )

Gordon Friedman and Terry Gilbert won a high profile attempted murder charge brought against a former NFL football player who was accused of attacking and knifing a man he sold his dental practice to.

Gordon Friedman and Terry Gilbert represented four brothers who were wrongfully accused of attacking a woman in a shopping center parking lot, leaving her for dead. The charges were dropped - exposed as a staged event - and a subsequent maliciousprosecution lawsuit was settled in the six figures.( Periandri v. Cuyahoga County )

Gordon Friedman achieved a victory in the 6th Circuit, where the court reversed a life sentence on a rape case because of ineffective assistance of the original defense lawyer.
